A Christmas Message from President and Sister Tanner

Dear Campus ‘Ohana:

In 1994, President Howard W. Hunter shared this Christmas message. Since then, Susan and I have reproduced it as poetry and taped it to our refrigerator door to remind us of ways to follow the example of the Master at Christmas. Since 2016, it has been complemented by inspiriting suggestions from “Light the World.” We want to share it with you, our beloved campus ‘ohana, so that you can put it on your refrigerator doors or, better, into your hearts this Christmas season. We especially commend the last injunction for this Christmas season: “Speak your love and then speak it again.”

This year, mend a quarrel.
Seek out a forgotten friend.
Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust.
Write a letter.
Give a soft answer.
Encourage youth.
Manifest your loyalty in word and deed.
Keep a promise.
Forgo a grudge.
Forgive an enemy.
Apologize.
Try to understand.
Examine your demands on others.
Think first of someone else.
Be kind.
Be gentle.
Laugh a little more.
Express your gratitude.
Welcome a stranger.
Gladden the heart of a child.
Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.
Speak your love and then speak it again.

Mele Kalikimaka!
